BOARD MEMBER/ DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL PROJECTS “CHIEF OFFICER BELLA’S PARTNER”
Javier Ortiz was born in Miami, Florida. Javier performed all his undergraduate work at Florida International University and received a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. While attending college, Javier worked as an advocate improving the lives of individuals with disabilities Javier has served in many different roles for non-profit organizations raising awareness and necessary funding to help those in need. For the past ten years, he has been serving the community as a public servant. Javier is currently Lieutenant of Police with the Miami Police Department. He is also the Union President for the Miami Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). In June/2013, Javier spearheaded a fundraiser to raise funds exclusively for pediatric cancer research. Javier and nine Miami Police Officers rode mountain bikes in full police uniform (gun belts and all!) over 28 bridges and a total of 162 miles from Miami to Key West. These rides In honor of Bella and all the children that have fought cancer, have continued for the past three years returning to Key West and even 300 miles from Miami to Disney world in Orlando in 2015. Lt. Ortiz is a strong advocate for Childhood cancer. He and Bella shared a special bond as friends and as police partners. Lt. Ortiz frequently accompanied his partner, Bella to doctors appointments and was with her until she took her last breath and went to heaven on May 28th, 2013. As a member of the board of directors, he helps set the strategic goals and objectives for the foundation until the day that childhood cancer is no more.
